Howard_Stephen 001Stephen Keith Howard, 59, affectionately known by his family and friends as “Big Dog”, died suddenly on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Southeast Regional Medical Center in Brunswick.

 A lifelong resident of Shellman Bluff, Big Dog was born on May 24, 1954 in Ludowici to the late Joe and Carolyn Howard. He was a great mechanic and could fix just about anything.   Big Dog worked for many years at Sea Board Construction and had also been a commercial fisherman. A former member of the Young’s Island Hunting Club, he loved hunting, fishing, camping and any other outdoor activity imaginable.  Big Dog loved his dog and the two would often spend hours on end riding in the woods.  He was a devoted son, father, brother and companion who never met a stranger and loved his family and friends more than anything.  In addition to his parents, his brother, Jerry Howard preceded him in death. 

 Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Bryan Manchester of Fort Bragg, NC and their children, Connor and Jack; his life mate of seventeen years, Miss Lee Mansfield of Shellman Bluff and her two grandchildren, Allison Harrell and Emily Ryals and his three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Sharon and Randy Turner, Susie Townsend and Cindy and Kenny McIntosh all of Townsend.  Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

 Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup.

 Graveside funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at the Davis Cemetery in McIntosh County with Reverend Tommy Whaley officiating.
