Shirley Anne Connor Jones passed away at home Saturday, October 27, 2012 after a short illness under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

She was born on July 1, 1937 in Waycross, Georgia, third daughter of the late Emmitt F. and Estelle Altman Connor. Shirley graduated from Jesup High School in 1955 and worked as a secretary for the Wayne County Board of Education, working at three different schools under three different Principals. She was a former member of the Dogwood Garden Club and was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Jesup for over fifty years where she was also a member of the Berean Sunday School Class. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother who loved caring for her grandchildren and taking trips to the mountains of North Georgia. She was also actively involved with the Jesup High School Graduating Class of 1955 which still meets quarterly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gene Rodney Jones, Jr.; a grandson, Owen Jones Dorsey; and a sister, Helen C. Floyd.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-six years, Gene Rodney “Buzzie” Jones of Jesup; three daughters, Marissa Jones Lewis of Augusta, Georgia, Narci Jones Drossos of Valdosta, Georgia and Katrina G. Dorsey of Jesup; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jeanette and J.E. Brannen of Jesup, Beth and J.D. Harper of Jesup and Linda Roberts of Blacksheer, Georgia; five grandsons; one granddaughter and a very special friend, Eddress D. Smith of Brunswick, Georgia. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 29, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Jesup with Reverends Michael VonMoss and Felix Haynes officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Active pallbearers will be Dr. Judson A. Lewis, Dr. Victor J. Lewis, Phillip R. Lewis, Gary W. Dorsey, Sam Gordon and Dan Ogden.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Gary A. Lewis, Dr. Robert C. Moore, Dr. Lanier Harrell, Dr. William V. Headley, Jr., Dr. James Gowen and members of the Berean Sunday School Class.

Interment will follow in the Jesup City Cemetery.
