James Mikell Scott, 56, passed away suddenly on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A native and lifelong resident of Wayne County, Mikell was born on August 15, 1967. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Jesup for twenty-five years before health forced his retirement. Mikell enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, although he never seemed to kill anything when he went hunting. He was a longtime member of Memorial Baptist Church and was the most big hearted and fun loving guy that ever lived. He was always ready to help anyone in need any time. Mikell loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing his faith with others. His father, Henry Scott, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-eight years, Rozanne Scott of Jesup; mother, Lounell Scott of Jesup; three children, Jonathon Scott and wife, Jennifer, Amber Highsmith and Lynle Hopkins and husband, Ryan all of Jesup; three brothers, John Scott of Worthington, Minnesota, Jerry Scott and wife, Georgianna of Hortense and Jason Scott and wife, Amber of Jesup and grandchildren, Peyton and Kadence Highsmith, Addison Scott, Nicholas, Seana and Brendon Hopkins and Noah-Jane Parker. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Reverend Tommy Gill officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jason Scott, Nicholas Hopkins, Ryan Hopkins and Ricky, Robert and Jamie Greene.
