Tyre_WilliamSylvania – William Jennings “Bill” Tyre, age 89, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, GA.  He was born in Odum, GA, to the late Isaac Lewis & Evelyn Estelle Tippins Tyre.  He was retired after 34 years of being an educator, retired from Sylvania Elementary School where he was Principal and also retired from City of Sylvania after 23 years where he served as Building Inspector.  He was a Veteran of WWII where he served in the Army for 3 years in the 158th Combat Engineers.  He was also a member of the Retired Educators of Screven County, the 158th Combat Engineer’s Association, American Legion and a member of the Sylvania Lions Club for 50 years. 

 Survivors: His Wife whom he married in July, 1946, Ann Pearce Tyre of Sylvania; Sons and Daughters-In-Law: Donald L. & Chris Tyre of Fayetteville, GA and William Craig & Lyle Tyre of Douglas, GA; Brother: Charles Tyre of Odum, GA; Grandchildren: Jennifer T. & George Barhel, Ginger T. Ford, Jessica L. Tyre, Emily Tyre and Sissy T. & Ted Watson; Great-Grandchildren: Grace Carver, Walker Watson, Jenna K. Watson, Ellie A. Watson, Kate Barhel, George Barhel, Mako May McDaniel and Isabella Christine Tyre.

 Visitation: Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Sylvania First Baptist Church Family Life Center.

 Funeral Services: Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Sylvania First Baptist Church with Dr. Charlie Cooper officiating.

 Interment Services: Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Odum City Cemetery, Tillman Street, Odum, GA with Rev. Carl Ledbetter officiating.

 Pallbearers: Senior Members of Sylvania Lions Club.  Honorary Pallbearers: Sylvania Lions Club, Bible Witness Sunday School Class, Wall’s Diner 3 O’Clock Coffee Club, Dr. & Mrs. Bill Kent, Susie Patrick, Harold Royal, Mack Chivers, Bud Odum and former teachers.
