Freddie N. Miller, Sr., 81, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at home under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

A native and lifelong resident of Wayne County, Freddie was born on June 8, 1937 to the late Joe and Mildred Dasher Miller.  He graduated from Screven High School in 1955, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in 1957, where he played on the baseball team and then went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Georgia in 1959. Freddie was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho and remained an avid Georgia Bulldog fan his entire life.  He owned and operated Miller’s Dairy Farm for many years and retired from Rayonier Advanced Materials with more than forty-three years of service.  Freddie loved the outdoors.  He spent his spare time hunting, fishing, gardening and tending to his beloved cows.  He also volunteered his time coaching little league baseball teams for many years and was a member of Flint Branch Baptist Church.  Most of all, Freddie was a loving husband, father and grandfather who always put his family first in everything he did.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Delores Strickland Miller of Screven; daughter, Maria Miller and companion, Tony Sharpe of Baxley; three sons, Freddie N. Miller, Jr. and wife, Lisa of Jesup, Douglas Miller and wife, Hope of Screven and Billy Murtha of Screven; one brother, Durwood Miller and wife, Annette of Screven; three grandchildren, Michael Miller Jacobs, Barrett Miller and Callie Ann Miller all of Screven and five brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernice  and Charlene Strickland of Odum, Allen and Lorine Boyd of Odum, Linda and Donnie May of Nahunta, Shannon and Deborah Strickland of Jesup and Gwen and Terry Morris of Lineville, Alabama. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 21, 2018 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Rev.  Scott Hickox and Dr. Ron Wilcox officiating.

Interment will follow in Screven City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Billy Murtha, Keith Boatright, Levi Yoder, Ishon Roberson, George Roberson, Kee Roberson, Art Todd, Robert Todd,  Scott Godwin, Billy Mac Burch, Steve Jones and Mark Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be Employees of Hospice of South Georgia, Members of the Local 787 Union and George Head.
