Claude Ashley Madray, 83, died Tuesday,December 4, 2012 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Ashley was born on November 19, 1929 to the late James S. and Clifford Horton Madray.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Wayne County and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Jesup where he was active in the Men’s Bible Class and the Choir.  Ashley was a retired school teacher, having served the Wayne County School System for forty-two years. He had also been principal at Wayne County Junior High School.  He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, enjoyed collecting art of all types and had a passion for History.

Survivors include his two sons and one daughter-in-law, Sidney Claude Madray of Arlington, Georgia and Ashley and Lee Madray of Houston, Texas; special niece, Carolyn Madray Nugent and husband, Paul of Brunswick, Georgia; grandchildren, Elizabeth Madray Thompson and Tennyson “T” Madray both of Houston, Texas

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012 in the James R. Gordon Memorial Chapel at Howard & Jones Funeral Home with the Reverend Tucker Lewis officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in the Jesup City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Richard Galloni, Joe McPipkin, Wade Odum, Jimmy Hires, Joe Warren and Paul Nugent.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Robertson, David Dukes, Tommy Causey and the members of the Men’s Bible Class at First United Methodist Church of Jesup.
