Poythress_CarolynCarolyn Dent Poythress, 74, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Wayne Memorial Hospital under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

Carolyn was born on December 1, 1939 in Brunswick, Georgia to the late Jim and Lettie Dent.  She spent her early years in Jesup and was educated in the Wayne County School System before earning her nursing degree at Macon Hospital School of Nursing.  As an Air Force wife, she and her late husband of forty-seven years, Charles W. Poythress, moved numerous times during their twenty years of service to our country before settling back in Jesup in 1975.  Carolyn loved caring for people and retired from Wayne Memorial Hospital after more than twenty-five years of nursing.  She was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church for more than forty years where she attended the Joy Sunday School Class.  Carolyn was always busy. She walked regularly with the Senior Walking Club at Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed camping and traveling with her family.  In her spare time, she enjoyed reading the Bible and scrapbooking. Carolyn was a good cook, her Brunswick Stew was second to none as was her devotion to her family. She cherished every moment spent with her husband, children and grandchildren and always held a special place in her heart for her sister whom she dearly loved.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Donna and Ernie Brooks, Lisa and Jaime Fuentes and Brian and Brenda Poythress all of Jesup; her beloved sister, Clarice Fussell and husband, Guy, Sr. of Warner Robins, GA and  her grandchildren and their spouses, Jai and Tori Fuentes, Emily and Aaron Reneau, Anna Fuentes, Madeline Tyler and Maxwell Tyler. Her great grandchildren, Riley, Alayia, Braedyn and Ava Jai also survive.
