Beloved brother and uncle, Barry Wasdin, 70, passed away September 25, 2012 in Soldotna, Alaska with family and faithful dog, Buck, at his side. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Barry was born November 01, 1941 in Miami, Florida to Lige and Myra Lee (Liles) Wasdin. He graduated from high school in Hollywood, Florida and joined the U.S. Air Force, serving four years in France.
After leaving the service, Barry lived in Coupeville, Washington for a number of years before returning home to Georgia where he worked for and retired from CSX Railroad.
Barry enjoyed many hobbies and interests through the years, including riding horses, watching rodeos, pet cats, dogs, gardening, reading his much loved western novels, visiting with family and friends and traveling. In later years, Barry moved to Alaska, where he made new friends, visited family and learned how to quilt.
He is survived by sister, Jean Childress of Odum, Georgia, nephews; David McDaniel of Savannah, Georgia, Steven Childress of Boulder, Nevada, William Childress of Juneau, Alaska and nieces; Felisa Childress of Soldotna, Alaska, Cynthia Slater of Vancouver, Washington, Jenifer Childress of Atkinson, Nebraska, 23 great nephews and nieces, 12 great, great nephews and nieces, and numerous cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Howard & Jones Funeral Home with a graveside service commencing at 2:00 p.m. at Screven City Cemetery.
