Alfred D. Elliott, 80, passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Memorial Health University in Savannah.

A native of Wayne County, Alfred was born on September 1, 1938 to the late Alton “Sport” and Stella Griffis. He served his country in the United States Navy for four years before returning to the states where he married the love of his life, Ruby Lee Yarbrough. The couple settled in Jesup where Alfred worked at Waynline for nearly ten years before taking a job at Rayonier Advanced Materials from which he retired after more than twenty-eight years. His meticulous work ethic and love of upholstery work led him to begin his family business, Elliott’s Upholstery, which he ran for more than fifty-eight years. He attended Jesup Church of God and in his spare time enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, working on antique cars and spending time with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, his father, Burt Elliott; sister, Margie Fay Griner and three brothers, Ronald Griffis, David Griffis and Roger Griffis all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Ruby Lee Yarbrough Elliott of Jesup; two daughters, Angela Elliott Thomas of Jesup and Ava Waters and husband, David C. Waters of Jesup; grandchildren, Chad Conner and partner, Jeremy of Winder, Georgia, Zachary Thomas of Jesup and Carl and Harley Waters of Jesup and sisters, Jean Samples, Opal Groover and husband, Tom, Melba Wilkerson and husband, Esmond and Sharon Passmore and husband, Olan all of Jesup. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2018 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Reverends Clayton Dowd, Theo Arnett and Keith Lairsey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be friends and family.

Honorary pallbearers will be men of Jesup Church of God.
