Albert Eugene Beatty, Jr., 65, of Ludowici, passed away Monday, December 17, 2012 at Hospice Savannah after a short and courageous battle with cancer.

Al was born on September 29, 1947 in Pennsylvania to the late Albert E. Sr. and Gertrude Beatty. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era before making his home in the Ludowici area. Al then began a career with Rayonier that would last over thirty-six years until health reasons forced his retirement. He loved watching and participating in sports of all kinds, especially baseball and football, and enjoyed running to keep in shape. Al also loved attending church and was a member at Faith Baptist Church in Ludowici. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye and Al cherished every moment that he spent with his loving family.

Al is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Nancy Golden Beatty; daughter, Carolyn Jarrett; son and daughter-in-law, Vincent and Brittany Beatty; granddaughter, Raegan and grandsons, Riley and Jayden all of Ludowici and siblings, Diane Westcoat and Terry Beatty of Pennsylvania.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Faith Baptist Church in Ludowici.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Faith Baptist Church in Ludowici with Reverend Terry Sellars officiating.

Active pallbearers will be P.J. Massey, Larry “Peanut” Strickland, Tim Chase, Billy Rawlings, Maron DeLoach and W.D. Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be Rayonier employees of the A/B Complex.

Interment will follow in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery with military honors.
