Herbert W. Townsley, Jr., 79, affectionately known by his family and friends as “Herb” or “Mr. T,” passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2016.
A resident of Ludowici for the past 20 years, Herb was born on April 9, 1936 in Aurora, Nebraska to the late Herbert Wayne and Marie Frances Townsley. He served his country in the United States Navy and later worked as a quality control inspector for Continental Can Company for many years. Later in life, Herb worked as a truck driver and was also involved in numerous business ventures before his retirement. He was a quiet man who enjoyed working in the yard and fishing. However, his favorite pastimes were watching wrestling and old westerns on television.
In addition to his parents, his sister, Gloria Payne and his brother, Tom Prochaska preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Adrienne Y. Townsley of Ludowici; one daughter and son-in-law, Yvette and Joseph Delaney of Garfield, New Jersey; five step children, Jack Grennan of Ludowici, Diane Fazel of Pennsylvania, John Makar and wife, Debra of Panama City Beach, Florida, Gail Makar of Ludowici and Stephen Makar and wife, Christine of Pennsylvania; one sister and brother-in-law, Irma and Leonard Skoda of Wahoo, Nebraska and eighteen grandchildren. A host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members also survive.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home with the Reverend Keith O’Neill celebrant.
Interment services will be private.
